Tutorial - Cascade Card using Die'sire Edge'able - Floral Dance

This was one of the first tutorials I did for Crafter's Companion back in 2015 but I never published it on my blog. However, I have recently had a request about it so here is the tutorial for a cascade card:

So that you can see the measurements and cuts more clearly I have used a felt tip pen for marking the card. When making your card just use a pencil so that the marks do not show up on your finished card.

Take one piece of double sided Centura Pearl card and trim the card so that the longer length measures 28.5cm. On the left hand side of the card measure 8cm up from the bottom edge. On the right hand side of the card measure 8cm down from the top edge.

With a pencil draw a line between the two measurements and cut the card as indicated here by the black line:

You will now have two pieces of card like this:

Next score both pieces of card at 8.5cm and 19cm as shown here by the dash lines:

The next step is to make the cuts that will join the two cards together. The cuts will go the opposite way on each card. Looking at the picture above we are going to work on the lower piece of card first. From the left hand side of the card the first cut will go from the bottom to the middle.

For the middle of the card the cut will go from the top to the middle and on the right hand side of the card the cut will go from the bottom to the middle again as indicated by the solid black lines in this picture:

To find the middle of each section, from the left hand side at the bottom measure in 4.7cm and mark lightly. Roughly half way up measure in 4.7cm and again mark it lightly. Line up your ruler against the two marks. Draw a line from the bottom upwards measuring 4.5cm.

For the middle, from the top this time measure half way between the score lines and lightly mark at 4.7cm. Roughly half way down mark at 4.7cm again. Place your ruler against the two marks and draw a line from the top down to the middle measuring 5.3cm.

Lastly for the right hand panel, at the bottom of the card measure from the score line to the end of your card and lightly mark at 4.7cm. Roughly half way up measure and mark at 4.7cm. Place your ruler against the two marks and draw a line from the bottom up to the middle measuring 6.2cm.

Cut out these three lines leaving a gap of a couple of millimeters (to allow the card to slot together).

Repeat this process with the top piece of card but the cuts need to go in the opposite direction. So, from the left the first measurement will go from the top to the middel (4.7cm in and 6.2cm high). The second measurement for the middle panel will go from the bottom to the middle (4.7cm in and 5.3cm high). The right hand panel measurement will be from the top to the middle (4.7cm in and 4.5cm high).

Don't worry f the cuts are slightly longer than they need to be, this is a very forgiving fold and you will not be able to see them once you have finished.

Next place your edge'able die against the sloping edge of the card and run it through a cutting machine to cut and then emboss. It will not fit perfectly from edge to edge and it will go over some of the cuts you have made but again don't worry.

Move the die further down the card and cut and emboss again.

Repeat on the other piece of card and you should end up with something that looks like this:

I found it easier at this stage to fit the card together so that I could push out the flowers. The two pieces of card should just slot together matching the cuts you have made.

From the front it will look like this:

All that is left to do is decorate it anyway you like. For this card I simply used stickers on the flowers but you could add inks, chalks etc.

I hope you liked this tutorial and let me know how you get on making your version x
